Volunteer Opportunities
at the Beaufort Historical Association


We have volunteer opportunities that fit every interest, age and schedule. From guiding tours to retail sales to driving our double-decker bus and more, there is is a fun experience made just for you.

VOLUNTEERS WANTED

Art Gallery Associate: Associates will work in the Mattie King Davis Art Gallery, open Monday - Saturday 10 am - 4 pm, on the Beaufort Historic Site. They welcome visitors to the Gallery, handle all retail sales of artwork including cash, check and credit card charges and enter artwork into the inventory as it is brought in. Associates are expected to work at least 2 days per month.

Welcome Center Assistant: The Welcome Center Assistant is responsible for greeting visitors and answering questions reguarding the Beaufort Historic Site and Beaufort in general. Knowledge of the Site and area required. They will also be trained to handle Gift Shop sales and to take and transfer incoming calls. Assistants are expected to work at least 3 - 4 times per month.

Docents: Site tours are offered daily Monday - Saturday at 10:00 am, 11:30 am, 1:00 pm and 3:00 pm. Docents lead tourgoers through various buildings on the Site giving a detailed explaniation of the structure and its contents. More extensive training will be given for this volunteer opportunity including shadowing currents docents. If you have a love of history and enjoy working closely with the public, this is the opportunity for you! Docents are expected to work at least once per week. They are required to wear Colonial dress, which can be provided.

Guided tours of the Old Burying Ground are offered Tuesday - Thursday at 2:30 pm. Docents lead tourgoers through the enchanted Old Burying Ground pointing out specific headstones and explaining its relevance. Docents are expected to work once per week. They are required to wear Colonial dress, which can be provided.

Educational Program Volunteer: Throughout the year, we have many education programs that we offer to in-county and out-of-county schools. These programs include building tours, Old Burying Ground tours, the 8th grade courthouse dramatization, harvest time and kindergarten thanksgiving. This is a great volunteer opportunity for those who enjoy working with younger generations to educate them on Beaufort's history. Volunteers are expected to work as needed during these programs. Scripts for each educational program are provided. Colonial dress is required, which can be provided.

Hands-on training and all training materials are provided for all volunteer opportunities. Training is on-going throughout the year. Flexibility in schedule is strongly needed to adjust to the varying tour schedules monthly.
