Volunteer Training Scheduled at Historic Site
Whether you come once a year to demonstrate a 19th century craft or help with an enormous event like the Old Homes Tour, spend weekends selling art in the Mattie King Davis Art Gallery or giving tours of the Historic Site during the week, you would be a welcome addition to an ever-growing number of volunteers that donate their time and talents for the BHA. The 2012 Volunteer Training consists of one session, taking place March 15th, from 9am into the afternoon and offers an overview of every volunteer opportunity there is at the BHA. Following a brief registration period, the trainees will tour five of the BHA’s historic buildings and see how volunteer docents guide tours for the many visitors who come to the site. Next, the various educational programs will be discussed and volunteer opportunities at Harvest Time, Kindergarten Thanksgiving, The Living History series and school group tours will be shared. Just before lunch, the group will participate in the Courthouse Drama, a program for eighth grade students allowing them to experience a trial that took place in the 1800’s and encourages them to compare and contrast today’s legal system with one from hundreds of years earlier.

You can even learn how to milk a "cow" like Vicki Mann, shown here, with a kindergarten student during our annual Kindergarten Thanksgiving program. |
