Debbie Cox
comes to the Mattie King Davis Art Gallery
The Beaufort Historical Association is featuring artist
Debbie Cox showing her eclectic style of work focused on
everyday happenings and objects with a touch of humor.
The opening of her show will be during the annual
Valentine Membership Drive Party Sunday February 7 from
2 to 4 pm in the Mattie King Davis Art Gallery. Her
show will continue through the months of February and
March.
Debbie has been featured at artist-in-residence programs
in North Carolina and California. Working mainly in
pastels and acrylics, the themes for her work revolve
around “accidental” tourists, dogs, fish, birds and
weather. Her subjects seem to be frozen in time with a
bit of humor.
A
UNC graduate, and long time resident of Chapel Hill,
Debbie now resides in Durham where she sells her work in
restaurants, galleries, and shops throughout NC, all
around the United States and even as far away as Japan!
National award winning restaurant, Cook’s Corner in
Chapel Hill, is as famous for the rotating art exhibits
as their eclectic southern cuisine. Debbie’s artwork
fits right in at Crook’s Corner with her “permanent
exhibit” in the women’s restroom. Carteret County
residents may remember when Front Street Grill was on
the North Side of Front Street and the restaurant was
filled with work by Debbie.
“I’ve known Debbie for many years and love her artwork,”
says Executive Director Patricia Suggs. “We’ve wanted
to have her as a featured artist, and I’m so glad she’s
finally agreed to do this. Everyone at the Valentine
Party will really enjoy meeting Debbie and seeing her
artwork,” adds Ms. Suggs.
The Beaufort Historical Association extends an
invitation to attend the February 7 Valentine Membership
Drive Party and art opening for Debbie Cox. This event
is free and open to the public, and a wonderful
opportunity to tour the buildings at the Beaufort
Historic Site and make new friends. For additional
