Talented artist, Charles Sharpe, will be featured at the Mattie King Davis Art Gallery during the month of August. His show will commence with a reception open to the public on August 2nd from 5 – 7pm.
A native of Durham NC, Sharpe is a gifted painter who, in the late 1970’s developed his own technique and style by studying with nationally known artists whose work he admired. Over the years, his passion for using light and shadow has influenced his choice of subject matter. This can be seen in many of his works of the Carteret County coastal areas. Sharpe captures the play of light on the water and the reflections the boats and sky cast. “We are thrilled to have Charles Sharpe Back at the Mattie King Davis Art Gallery,” says Pam Cooper, Art Gallery Committee Memer. “He has such an eye for detail and color, and his work is also such a travelogue of places he and his wife, Pat, have visited.”
Sharpe’s paintings have been exhibited and received awards in the Southern Watercolor Society Exhibitions, The Watercolor Society of North Carolina, and the N.C State Fair. His paintings have also been exhibited in Watercolor West in California, the Adirondacks National Exhibition of American Watercolors in upstate New York and most recently in the American Watercolor Society International Exhibition in New York City.
His paintings can be seen in a vast number of private collections across the county and are also being displayed in corporate collections including SAS Institute, Sun Trust Bank, Wachovia Bank, Duke University Medical Center, Glaxo Smith-Kline, and the Durham County Public Library, to name a few.
For the past 10 years, Sharpe has maintained a studio/gallery behind his home in Morehead City and his work and studio space can be viewed by appointment.
The Mattie King
Davis Art Gallery is the oldest gallery in Carteret County and exhibits the
work of over 100 local and regional artists. Gallery proceeds benefit the
ongoing educational and restoration projects at the Beaufort Historic
Site. For more information on Charles
